I'm almost all the way through Numbers. Over and over again I read the counting of the Hebrews {well, the men anyway) and the repetitive genealogies. Obviously, there was something very important about those family links and family stories. If they were so important, and many survived the division of Israel and the Babylonian captivity, how did those of the "lost tribes" get lost?

I'm in the book of Judges, plus through Psalm 96. I'm surprised at how connected I've felt from time to time with people from thousands of years ago.
