Well, finished the Samuels and went on to 1 Kings. Probably lots of exaggeration throughout. Reading straight through 1 Kings I get for the first time the nearly relentless path away from worship of the One True God to the gods of the land. And it was all-encompassing. I'm thinking about that - male temple prostitutes (what for?), the pull to honor the spirits of the land in order not to anger them, Solomon following the gods of his wives, Jeraboam making golden bulls when Israel and Judah split, meaning them to represent the One True God, and instead they become a slippery slope to worship on the high places. Wow. Quite some read!
